I adore video essays as an art form, and have gotten to make a couple of them regarding topics like the the beauty of SPEED RACER by the Wachowski Sisters and the relationship between video games and modern thriller cinema.

BuzzFeed
In 2017, I had the pleasure of being a Junior Video Fellow at BuzzFeed LA. I got to make 2 videos, help make a bunch of great ones, and even appear in a few. My first video is of folks revisiting films from their childhood that scarred them with terror, seeing if the effect is still in place, or if they’ve grown out of it. I’m very proud of the editing and aesthetics on this piece. The second video I made had folks who were raised Christian or Catholic taking a Bible quiz, seeing if they retained any of their religious teachings. I also had a lot of fun editing this one, and was thankful that my friend Alex Allsup was down to be part of my goofy framing device. Apparently my “correct answer” for the first question is not correct or accurate, so I apologize for anyone who was offended… I guess, I don’t know, it got a decent amount of views so I’m happy.
Everything, Now!
Everything, Now! is an interactive, improv/sketch comedy livestream show only on Twitch. Think of it like a stoner Blue’s Clues with the loose and ridiculous world building of Comedy Bang! Bang! I co-produce, write, and perform the show with Alex Allsup, Jake Ellenbogen, Sydney Adams, and Chris Tcholakian. Utilizing sound alerts, poll-based voting, image submissions from viewers, and general involvement of the chat and audience, the show is heavily driven by the viewers, in terms of humor and plot. It’s changed from its more sitcom-esque days to a cavalcade of absurd characters populating a small world whose chaos is not too dissimilar from ours… things just blow up more. Also we have a talking face on the side of a mountain that grants wishes.
Aesthetically, the show is very cut-&-paste, slapped together with bright and cartoonish (sometimes lo-fi) visuals and sound effects. Michel Gondry is a particular inspiration a lot of the time, along with The Chris Gethard Show, as far as its ingenuity with audience-interaction goes. It’s campy in its charm, but it’s a very meaningful space to me for artistic experimentalism, and comedic expression. Additionally, we’ve raised a lot of money for a wide variety of charities, including End the Backlog and relief for Australian Wildfires. We’re still growing, but it continues to prove a rewarding and fulfilling platform that I’m still so eager to help develop in weirder and wilder ways.
